The Deep Random Survey telescope managed to capture images of interstellar object 3I/Atlas (previously known as A11pl3Z) in July 2025. A mysterious object the size of Manhattan could be a hostile alien spacecraft and may attack Earth in November, according to a new study. Earlier this month, experts confirmed the discovery of a rare interstellar visitor—only the third ever detected—hurtling through our Solar System at extraordinary speed. A draft scientific paper, dated 22 July, has proposed that the object, 3I/ATLAS, might be alien technology and could make a surprise attack on our planet. The researchers suggest that 3I/ATLAS’s orbit is such that it would make it easier for an intelligent alien craft to approach Earth without being noticed. They report that when it gets closest to the Sun (perihelion) in late November, the object will be hidden from Earth’s view, allowing it to carry out a secret high-speed manoeuvre to slow down and stay in the Solar System to secretly prepare for an attack.

A graphic from 2024 shows the potential flightpath of ESAs Comet Interceptor. Space scientists say they are preparing a comet interceptor spaceship as the third interstellar object ever detected was spotted this week. A mysterious object the size of Manhattan was spotted by astronomers hurtling through our Solar System at extraordinary speed. The object, now officially designated 3I/ATLAS (previously known as A11pl3Z), is believed to have come from a distant star system and is travelling at over 60 kilometres per second. Although the new object is considered to pose no threat to Earth, the European Space Agency (ESA) has announced it is continuing work on a mission to meet future visiting entities. Addressing the need to investigate visitors to our Solar System, the space agency said on Thursday (3 July): "To this end, ESA is preparing the Comet Interceptor mission.,Image: 1018584660, License: Rights-managed, Restrictions: Editorial use, commercial use may require additional licenses. This NASA image obtained on November 19, 2025, shows an annotated version, with the trajectory and scale bar, of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, captured by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft on October 2, 2025. Vestige of a distant past or extraterrestrial threat? The comet 3I/ATLAS, currently speeding through our solar system, fascinates scientists and captivates social networks, including Kim Kardashian, who speculate it might be an alien spacecraft. From the superstar to a member of the US Congress, and prominent conspiracy theorists, various voices are questioning whether it is not a natural comet but... an extraterrestrial vessel.,Image: 1053432951, License: Rights-managed, Restrictions: RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE - MANDATORY CREDIT "AFP PHOTO / NASA " - NO MARKETING NO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS - DISTRIBUTED AS A SERVICE TO CLIENTS, ***
