2003, Fort Hood, Texas, USA: Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, an Army psychiatrist and a U.S. citizen of Arab descent, opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post in a rampage that killed 13 and left 31 wounded. The gunman was wounded and in critical condition under military guard. Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and was upset about it. Hasan shot unarmed soldiers with two hand guns, one of them a 5.7-millimeter pistol dubbed a "cop killer" for its ability to fire ammo that can pierce bulletproof vests.
